The Public Press exists to publish materials that are too specialized or too controversial to interest conventional publishers. While more and more new titles are published each year -- more than 200,000 in 2004! -- some of the more worthy stories, ideas, theories, and opinions languish due to lack of commercial* appeal.

The Public Press employs new technologies and the economics of scale -- "small" scale, that is -- to publish books that might not otherwise see the light of day. We then offer our titles a home so that they are accessible via traditional book trade channels.

We specialize in the following:

Author's Editions

For many, an Author's Edition will be the fastest and most reasonable route to publication. The author manages pre-press operations, thereby achieving maximum control and financial opportunity at the lowest risk.

Community Supported Books (CSBs)

Some books have as their primary goal to support a specific community. Inspired by Community Supported Agriculture (CSAs) Community Supported Books can reach special interest markets that are not served by commercial publishers.

Electronic books
